  18. Church Church A COUNTER-INTUITIVE DISCOVERY Church

  19. I. Why should we start new churches? C. Experience teaches us that an evangelism that is serious, complete, and regular in any given region cannot be done apart from the establishment of a new local church in that area.

  20. I. Why should we start new churches? D. Planting daughter churches causes a multiplication leading to greater exposure to the gospel and in some cases into areas too distant for one church to reach out into.

  21. I. Why should we start new churches? E. Because planting daughter churches increases the need for and the importance of training new leaders furthering leadership multiplication.

  24. I. Why should we start new churches? F. Because new churches are often more able to fit the regional context and, in some cases, the new cultural context.

  25. I. ¿Por qué debemos fundar nuevas iglesias? I. Why should we start new churches? G. Daughter churches being planted in a given region can increase the receptivity of an area. Greater Receptivity

  26. I. Why should we start new churches? H. Planting daughter churches can become a model for reproduction thus encouraging the daughter church to plant its own daughter church.

  27. OUR EXPERIENCE WITH OUR 1ST GRANDDAUGHTER CHURCH PLANT6th PARIS ORLY Longjumeau 1968 Bretigny 1986

  28. I. Why should we start new churches? I. Roger Greenway gives the following combination as a regional strategy: 1) House churches. 2) Permanent-building churches 3) Rally centers.

  29. I. Why should we start new churches? J. Because new smaller churches have more dynamic in terms of mobilization of believers.

  30. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? A. Sentimentalism. • Members of the sponsoring church are to leave to start a new church. • The separation is difficult for the sponsoring church and the new core group.

  31. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? A. Sentimentalism. How do you solve this? • Remember that Christ has called us to make sacrifices for his sake. Acts 13:1-3 • Have joint meetings so that the separation is not felt so deeply. • Preach and teach that more people will come to Christ by starting a new church. See the larger picture. 1

  32. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? B. Fear. 1. Fear of division in the sponsoring church.

  33. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? B. Fear. 2. Fear that the new daughter church might slip into false doctrine.

  34. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? • FEAR. 3. Fear that the mother church might be weakened in creating a daughter church. a. Weakened financially b. Weakened in terms of people available to do ministry.

  35. How Can these fears be dealt with? • The answer to fear is faith. • Careful planning needs to be done to avoid division. • Nothing of value has ever been accomplished in God’s work without sacrifice. • The core group should be committed to the doctrinal position of the mother church to avoid doctrinal deviation. This includes leaders who have a solid doctrinal base.

  36. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? C. A lack of vision or faith. The answer to this is Heb 11:1.

  37. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? D. A spirit of “elitism” which blocks out the possibilities for starting new churches and reserves it to only a select few who have been trained and ordained.

  38. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? E. An approach to church planting which makes finances central so that a new church will only be started if there is enough support for a church planter and for the expense of starting a new work.

  39. IMPORTANT NOTE: THERE ARE THREE ROADBLOCKS TO THE PLANTING OF NEW CHURCHES: • A FULLY-SUPPORTED CHURCH PLANTER. • A FULLY-TRAINED AND ORDAINED CHURCH PLANTER. • A CONSECRATED PLACE TO MEET IN.

  40. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? F. A problem of expansion of the mother church which is not growing enough for it to start another church. Two key questions: 1. WHAT IS THE IDEAL SIZE FOR A CHURCH? 2. WHEN SHOULD A DAUGHTER CHURCH BE STARTED?

  41. II. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OBSTACLES TO STARTING NEW CHURCHES? G. The idea (in some areas of the world) that there are already enough churches. So that instead of starting new churches we need to help to revive and encourage older churches.

  42. THE ANSWER TO THIS First, we should encourage and seek to revive existing older churches. However, a. In most cases these churches do not want help. b. If they are helped they do not need a church planter but a church health consultant. c. Never forget the general principle that older churches grow less than new churches and larger churches grow less than newer smaller churches.

  43. THE ANSWER TO THIS • If we understand the problem of “growth ceilings” then we will understand why we need to plant new churches. • One of the best ways to help existing churches is to continue to plant new churches that will be a challenge and encouragement to them.

  44. A DYNAMIC EXAMPLE OF WHY MULTIPLICATION IS NECESSARY

  45. III. HOW CHOOSE THE REGION FOR A NEW CHURCH? • PRAYER AND THE GUIDANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

  46. III. HOW CHOOSE THE REGION FOR A NEW CHURCH? New areas New people Younger couples B. Look for receptivity.

  47. III. HOW CHOOSE THE REGION FOR A NEW CHURCH? C. Look at demographic data.
