  2. Creating a Google Voice Account Sign in to your Gmail account If you do not have a Gmail account you will need to create one to use Google Voice Once you are signed in, click on the drop-down menu on the tool bar at the very top, titled “More” and go down to “Even More”

  3. Signing into Google Voice

  4. Google Voice Here you will see “Voice” under “Home & Office” Click on “Voice”

  5. Choosing your Number A window will pop up for you to set up your phone number. Choose “I want a new number.”

  6. Choosing your Number Here you will enter your area code and then either type in a word that you want your phone number to “spell out” or you will simply click “Search numbers.”

  7. Choosing your Number Now you can select a phone number from the ones provided here.

  8. Creating a Pin Number Next you will be asked to choose a pin to check your voice mail from your phone. Remember Google Voice is a call forwarding service. It uses a Google Voice number as an avenue to reach your mobile or home phone.

  9. Forwarding phone number You will now add the number to which you’d like your calls forwarded to. Choose whatever phone number you currently use for FLVS. Make sure it will ring when it is called. You can add more numbers later.

  10. Number Verification Google Voice will then give you a 2-digit number. It will call your phone and you will hear a recording that prompts you to enter the verification code. Type in the 2-digit code when prompted. You are all set! You will see this next:

  11. Now What? At this point, you will want to give out your Google Voice number as your primary contact for students, parents and even co-workers! This is your “Business Line.” Keep in mind that you can add this number to your “Friends and Family” list with your mobile phone service provider. That way, any time someone calls in or you call out using this number, you are not charged minutes. 

  12. Don’t forget… You will want to set up your voice mail and check out all the options for your Google Voice account. You have the option to have notifications sent to your email, texts forwarded to your phone, and setting your phone to ring during certain hours.

  13. Set up your voice mail You can record your voicemail on the computer or by having Google Voice call you. Then follow the prompts from the recording.

  14. Choose your call settings Spend a few minutes choosing your call settings. Then you will be ready to make and receive calls using your new Google Voice number!
