What is Bulimia? • Bulimia is an illness in which a person uses different methods such as, vomiting or abusing laxativesin order to prevent weight gain. • This nervosa can be categorized in two ways : • Purging Bulimia - vomiting after a big meal. • Non-purging Bulimia – using methods such as fasting, strict dieting, or excessive exercising.

  3. What Causes This? • This disorder is still unknown today but, some factors that play a role in this disorder are genetic, psychological, trauma, family, society, or cultural factors. • This disorder is common to most girls, who eat a large amount of food, and have the urge to vomit up the extra calories.

  4. Signs & Symptoms • They make themselves vomit several times a day for many months. • Excessive exercises • Damaged blood vessels in the eyes from vomiting. • Dry Mouth • Minor injuries across the top of the finger joints from forcing oneself to vomit.

  5. Treatments Most of these treatments can be treated depending on how severe the bulimia is. • Patients who have mild conditions would be helped with support groups. • Those that have severe bulimia such as, Anorexia major depression, or etc. , would most likely be hospitalized.

  6. How to manage illness? • Many bulimic people could go to self-help groups. • You could also go to a source of information called, “ The American Anorexia/Bulimia Association”.
