Drop out and give up scholarship

  8. 1C CSC’s Regulations • Incoming new student: If register between • >>>half-month stipend for September. • If register after : NO Sep. stipend. Start to issue from next month of arrival. • Returning students who register late or take a long-leave: stipend suspended (not cancelled), rolled into the next month of arrival. • Graduating in June: half for July. • Graduating in December: half for January. Sep. 15 & 30 Sep. 30

  9. 1D Annual Review for CSC Full, Jasmine Full and Presidential Scholarships Deadline of Participation Apr. 30, 2019 Submit: Review Form & Transcripts 01 Pass or Fail 1-Year suspension (can be resumed) • Credits of failed compulsory courses accumulated > one third of total credits • Meet the university standard for 1-year repetition • Students have applied for one-year suspension of study 02 Cancellation (cannot be resumed) 03 • Fail to participate the Review • Demerit record, Academic Probation or Dismissal

  10. Those who fail: • No longer tuition & fee waiver, monthly stipend or one-time subsidy since September of the year of review. • Student shall pay the full tuition, accommodation and insurance fees as self-funded students. • Suspension: may apply to resume scholarship by the next April 30th.

  12. 2A What is a merit-based scholarship 评优 • CSC Outstanding Scholarship (apply each June), 3 candidates at most • Guobang Scholarship (apply each October), 2+2+10 • Non-exclusive with other scholarships (can hold CSC full and CSC Outstanding, or Presidential and Guobang at the same time) • Qualities of winners of previous years: • Publication as 1st author in high IF journals or contribution in student services • Application form & defense with PPT slides

Punctuality: • Being late never means politeness • China’s development • High-speed train (Gaotie) is always punctual Respect: • Mutual, earned • Privilege? Discrimination? Orderly: • Conformity to Chinese laws and regulations • Counter-examples: Harrassment, Shoplifting & Cheating • Contract society: being responsible for what you say, do and write. • Read and think for yourselves. Don’t imitate.

  20. 3A Regulations of Payment • Highlights: • All fees calculated in RMB and standards made by Financial Office. • School of International Education only provides instruction. • How long is the immigration support? Attendance rate and demerit record taken into consideration. (Ms.Zhang) • Who must pay by year? Who can pay by semester? • Deadline(s) of payment: Mar.5 Jan.5 30 days upon arrival Sep.1

Presidential scholarship students shall pay the fee differences between the tuition/fees and their scholarship • Example: 25000-20000=5000, 14000-10000=4000 • Electricity: 80 kwh/year each double room, 60 each single room. • Calculate: AC=4 or 7.2kw, Freezer=0.5kw, how many hours? • Price: ¥0.55 - ¥0.9 Yuan/kwh, Why? (ladder price/increment)

  24. 3D Insurance doesn’t mean FREE medical service But it will help you avoid bankruptcy and consequent drop-out. Compulsory by Chinese of Ministry of Education 2 30,000 - 29,000 Their job is to say NO, and your job is to try… 100,000 – 100,000 What they don’t pay?

Insurance companies never pay for: • Suicides, self-injuries • Previous diseases (e.g. diabetes, mental disorder) before covered by insurance plan • Going to (private-owned) hospitals other than designated public hospitals • Using medicines/medical equipment other than Generic Drugs, living in special-care ward • Receiving non-emergency dental & vision care • Plastic surgery, pregnancy & abortion, rehabilitation, health examination • Unlicensed driving, taking drugs, alcohol abuse • Ambulance or taxifees • Those fees are neither reimbursed by insurance company nor paid by the university. • Hospitals do not start surgery until: 1. deposit fees are paid 2. written consent from the patient if he/she stays conscious • We will try to contact your parents, sponsor or embassy

  26. Advance Payment 垫付 • Before hospitalization, file an insurance claim to allow insurance company to pay the hospital. • Student pay for their own medical treatment, and collect receipts for refund (not 100%) Reimbursement 理赔

Dependent Policy • School has the right to reject family member coming to/staying in China unless we are 100% convinced that: • Student is capable of balancing study and caretaking • Single parent? Sorry but no. • Short-term student? No. • Financially capable: • Afford off-campus housing • >2000 extra income/month • (Also apply for children born in China) • Family member don’t come to China for: • Surgery, major diseases • Illegal work

Vehicles • Nanjing Police: • All foreigners who drive cars/ride motorcycles must have Driver’s License • Car: C1 C2 Motorcycle: E • Pass the computer-based test and road test • Put on record with: university/institution • Compulsory Traffic Insurance, helmet • CPU Security Office: • Taxi/DD/rental cars forbidden on-campus • Pre-registered cars only • No motorcycle or mopad allowed on-campus • No E-bike charger allowed in dormitories/near entrance, no wire outside walls
