This study examines storm classifications in the northeastern quadrant of Colorado, extending to non-panhandle Oklahoma and north-central Texas down to Dallas, as well as northern Alabama and south-central Tennessee. The classifications include isolated storms and organized squall lines, focusing on clouds and their convective behaviors without including MCCs. Additionally, the diurnal cycle of cloud-to-ground flashes is analyzed across three sites using NLDN data, while CAPE values are calculated from the 40 km Eta model for each study region every six hours for the years 2004 and 2005.

Study regions Colorado = northeastern quadrant of the state Oklahoma = non-panhandle Oklahoma plus adjoining portion of Texas, down to Dallas Alabama = northern Alabama plus south central Tennessee Storm classifications: isolated - an individual or multi-cell storm with an isolated anvil MCC - standard definition organized - squall line or cold front driven lines of convection where the anvils merge. Does not include MCCs.
