  1. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 Plain Speech What Christ Says About Salvation

  2. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 Plain Speech • The Complaint • They want to know, plain and simple, if Jesus is the Messiah • They were looking for a political Messiah • Therefore, Jesus had to be careful • But Jesus was still forthright • Jews were trying to put the blame on Jesus • Genesis 2:16,17; 3:12,13; 1 Timothy 2:14 • Jeremiah 8:20

  3. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 Plain Speech • Christ’s Answer • Jesus responds with “I did tell you” • Jesus’ words alone did this – John 4:42; 4:50; 6:68 • Jesus’ works (miracles, signs) confirm this • John gives us seven • John 20:31 tells us there were many more

  4. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 Plain Speech • Do we follow? • If Jesus’ words and works are true, then why would you not truly listen and follow? • If you have already heard Jesus’ voice, then you should be following? • If you are going your own way, what right do you have to think you belong to Him? • If you will not listen to God’s truth, what makes you think you belong to Him?

  5. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 What Christ Says About Salvation • The desperate state of the lost – implied • Man has lost spiritual life – “the fall” • Man turns from spiritual things unless God intervenes • Man cannot recover this spiritual life unless God gives His free gift • Man will perish without this free gift

  6. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 What Christ Says About Salvation • Grace given by God – direct • Christ died for the sheep – v.11 • Jesus has given His sheep eternal life – v.28 • The sheep are those whom God has given to Jesus – v.29 • Therefore, the origins of our salvation are in God through His Son Jesus

  7. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 What Christ Says About Salvation • Our salvation is the result of an effective call – direct • Jesus’ call to His sheep is so powerful that they believe and embrace Him – v.27 • The mark of Jesus’ sheep is that they hear and follow • Puritans referred to this as the double mark, one on the ear and one on the foot

  8. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 What Christ Says About Salvation • Believers are never lost – direct • No one whom God has called in faith will be lost • His sheep will never perish – v.28 • No one can snatch them out of God’s hand • This is because salvation is God’s action • Our responsibility is to believe with the faith God has given us and then continue to choose to yield to the Spirit that dwells inside us

  9. The Doctrine of SalvationJohn 10:22-29 Application Do you believe the promise that you are safe in Jesus’ hands and you will never be lost? Are you able to trust God for this as you have for other truths? Do you belong to Christ?
