  6. History • The metal Nickel was discovered by a man named Axel Fredrik Cronstedt in the mineral niccolite in 1751 • It is believed that nickel deposits are a result of an ancient meteor impact

  7. Origin of Name and Symbol • The word nickel is a shortened version of a German word – “Kupfernickel” – which means Devil’s copper or St. Nicholas’s copper. • Symbol: first two letters of element’s name
