  1. Journal #7: Exploded Moments • Watch the clip from The Wonder Years. • Make a list of details that the director uses in order to build tension in the moment. • What feeling does this scene create in you as you watch it?

  2. Your turn • Look at your outline and determine the climax of your narrative. • Take ten minutes to describe this scene in detail. Slow down and zoom in to build tension. • What do you see? • What do people say? • How do you feel? • Don’t worry about polish right now.

  3. Review Your Writing • Read back through your journal and circle the three details you like the best. • Add three more details that you might include in order to build tension in the scene.

  4. Feedback • Trade with a partner. • Provide feedback in the form of questions. • Write at least three questions you have about the scene at the bottom of the page. • Why does _____ happen? • How did you feel when _____? • What does _____ feel/look like? • Use these questions to help you to make improvements to this scene when you are finishing your draft.
