  10. lzEaz"[]  Azazel The Pair of Goats And Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats, one lot for the LORD and the other lot for the scapegoat. (Leviticus 16:8). Az: Aramaic word for “goat,” but also occasionally used in Hebrew (Genesis 27:9; 30:32, 35). Azelis the verb, “to go away.”

  11. lzEaz"[]  Azazel The Pair of Goats And Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats, one lot for the LORD and the other lot for the scapegoat. (Leviticus 16:8). Az: Used in Hebrew to describe “power” and “strength” and even “ferocity” (Genesis 49:3; Numbers 13:28) Azelis the verb, “to go away.”

  12. The Pair of Goats Then Aaron shall offer the goat on which the lot for the LORD fell, and make it a sin offering. (Leviticus 16:9).

  13. The Pair of Goats But the goat on which the lot for the scapegoat fell, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make atonement upon it, to send it into the wilderness as the scapegoat. (Leviticus 16:10).

  14. Provision of Incense And he shall take a firepan full of coals of fire from upon the altar before the LORD, and two handfuls of finely ground sweet incense, and bring it inside the veil. 13 And he shall put the incense on the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the ark of the testimony, lest he die. (Leviticus 16:12-13).

  15. The Place of Mercy Moreover, he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east side; also in front of the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times. (Leviticus 16:14).

  19. The Power of Blood Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and of the blood of the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar on all sides. 19 And with his finger he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times, and cleanse it, and from the impurities of the sons of Israel consecrate it. (Leviticus 16:18-19).

  20. The Passing of the Goat When he finishes atoning for the holy place, and the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall offer the live goat. (Leviticus 16:20).

  21. The Passing of the Goat Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel, and all their transgressions in regard to all their sins... (Leviticus 16:21a).

  22. The Passing of the Goat …and he shall lay them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who stands in readiness. (Leviticus 16:21b).

  23. . The Passing of the Goat And the goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to a solitary land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. (Leviticus 16:22).

  24. Leviticus 16:29-30 This shall be a permanent statute for you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble your souls and not do any work, whether the native, or the alien who sojourns among you; 30 for it is on this day that atonement shall be made for you to cleanse you; you will be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

  25. Hebrews 8:1-2 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.

  26. Hebrews 8:4-5 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; 5 who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “See,” He says, “that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”

  27. Hebrews 9:6-7 Now when these things have been so prepared, the priests are continually entering the outer tabernacle performing the divine worship, 7 but into the second, only the high priest enters once a year, not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance.

  28. Hebrews 9:8-10 The Holy Spirit is signifying this, that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the outer tabernacle is still standing, 9 which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, 10 since they relate only to food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until a time of reformation.

  29. Hebrews 9:11-12 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

  30. New Covenant But the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. (9:23). Old Covenant Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these (9:23). For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one (9:24). But into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us (9:24).

  31. New Covenant But now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifices of Himself (9:26). Old Covenant Nor was it that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood not his own, otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world (9:25-26).

  32. New Covenant So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him (9:28). Old Covenant And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment (9:27).

  36. Leviticus 17:3-4 Any man from the house of Israel who slaughters an ox or a lamb or a goat in the camp, or who slaughters it outside the camp, 4 and has not brought it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD, bloodguiltiness is to be reckoned to that man. He has shed blood and that man shall be cut off from among his people.

  37. Leviticus 17:5 The reason is so that the sons of Israel may bring their sacrifices which they were sacrificing in the open field, that they may bring them in to the LORD, at the doorway of the tent of meeting to the priest, and sacrifice them as sacrifices of peace offerings to the LORD.

  38. ~rIy[iF.l;  From the root sair, “goat” or “hairy.” Leviticus 17:7 They shall no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the goat demons with which they play the harlot. This shall be a permanent statute to them throughout their generations.

  39. Leviticus 17:10 And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people.
