  2. Demonstratives We actually have these in English. Demonstratives can be in the form of adjectives or pronouns. How do you know which one you are using? Adjectives will come before a noun. i.e. these books are expensive Pronouns have taken the place of the noun. i.e. These are expensive.

  3. Demonstratives In either language, demonstratives are use to be specific in choosing an item. In English, demonstratives are “this” “these” “that” “those.” Adjectives will agree in number and gender with the noun that proceeds them– just like in English.

  4. Demonstratives Adjectives There are 3 categories: • Near the speaker (“this” and “these”) • Near the listener (“that” and “those”) • Near neither/over there (“that” and “those”)

  6. Demonstratives Adjectives este m. s. Este cinturón es muy bonito. esta f. s. Esta blusa es rosada y azul. estos m. pl. Yo veo estos pantalones en la revista popular. estas f. pl. Jorge lleva estas botas pardos.

  15. Demonstratives Pronouns In the examples, the demonstrative replaces the noun it modifies and it agrees in number and gender. Out of context, a reader cannot identify what noun the pronoun is replacing, but used in context, the reader will be able to reference the pronoun used.
