  1. WELCOME PARENTS! Please sign in on the clipboard. The course outline, vocabulary resources, and my contact information can be found on my CR North website under ‘Faculty.’ A little about me; a little more about the course.

ENGLISH 9 • Literature (R&J, TKMB, And Then There Were None, Animal Farm, The Illustrated Man, selected short stories, A Raisin in the Sun) – personal copies can be used (annotation and extra credit), hard copies available on the counter • Various nonfiction articles and poetry (Annotation, Research Paper, Historical Connection, etc.) • Council Rock School District strongly encourages parents to survey the outstanding collection of challenging literature contained within our program.  Much of the content presents important and complex ideas that encourage critical thinking.  Any connection discussed in class is made that much stronger by the conversation and connections that are made at home.  We invite you to discuss any of the elements of our courses with your child’s teacher.

ENGLISH 9 • Vocabulary (Weekly) and SAT prep **students are encouraged to obtain an individual copy of the Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary book (Level D) - $12 (due last Friday) • Grammar (weekly) • Literary Devices and Figurative Language • Writing (portfolio, various essays, creative writing (genre, poetry, journalism, reflections, etc.), research paper, critical analysis and response, Criterion, etc.) • Turnitin.com/Canvas

  4. ENGLISH 9 • Journal Entries (Values.com) • Word of the Day (Dictionary.com) • Blogging (permission slip) • Homework (I don’t assign much and expect work handed in on time) • Standardized Test development (Vocabulary Workshop) • HAC/Email Communication • Assessment return (no vocabulary)

EXPECTATIONS • Academic Integrity Guidelines (posted on website) • Grading • 1st/2nd MP: HW/CW = 15%, Vocab = 25%, Tests/Quizzes/Papers/Projects = 60%. • 3rd/4th MP: HW/CW = 10%, Vocab = 25%, Tests/Quizzes/Papers/Projects = 40%, Research Paper (3rd MP)/Final Exam (4th MP) = 25%. • Student Handbook/Planner • Resourcefulness (absences, printing, etc.) • Absence Policy (20 full-year/10 semester = possible credit denial)
