  4. Team debate • Part 5: Prepare closing statement. • You will have 10 minutes to discuss and prepare closing statements. • - Choose a new person to present the closing statements.

  5. Team debate • Part 5: closing statement. • Each team has up to 5 minutes to give closing statements. • - Negative team will go first. • - Affirmative team second.

With a partner: • Make up a KAC-related superstition and explain the history behind the superstition. • i.e., Students at KAC believe that if you visit Prof. Merritt’s office three times on a Tuesday, you will have bad luck for one semester. • - KAC students believe this because there is a story that several years ago, a group of students would often visit Prof. Merritt’s office on Tuesday to ask questions about classes. Usually, the students would ask one question, leave the office, come back because they forgot to ask something, leave, then finally come back again. Prof. Merritt was always busy on Tuesday’s, so it was difficult for him to meet the students. He explained this, but the students continued to come. Finally, Prof. Merritt warned them that it was bad luck to come to his office so often on a Tuesday. The students didn’t listen, so Prof. Merritt talked to the other KAC professors and gave them a list of the students in the group and asked the professors to give them bad grades for the semester. The professors accepted Prof. Merritt’s proposal, and the students in the group all got low grades for the semester. The rumor about this spread through KAC, and now students are afraid to see if it’s true or not.
