  3. The park has the world’s longest suspension bridge that is 428 meters long. • They have the world’s largest wave churning machine which makes perfect waves to a height of 8 feet. • They have a man-made volcano that stands 75 feet high and they use it as the background for concerts.

  4. King’s Palace • The Malaysian King’s Palace is also known as Istana Negara. • It is the official residence of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. • The palace was built in 1928 by a Chinese millionaire. It was converted to the royal place in 1957. • The palace is guarded by royal guards that have a ceremony when they change.

  5. Muslim Religion • 60.4 percent of Malaysians are Muslim. • All ethnic Malays are Muslim. • There is a school called the International Islamic University of Malaysia.

  6. Malaysian Sports (in popularity) Malaysian Sports! (in order of popularity) In first place for sports is Soccer. You may think that’s only for USA but it’s not. In second place is Sepak Takraw. It is like volleyball but you can’t use your hands! In third… I don’t really know! 

  7. Malaysian Sports! The sport Silat is like karate in America. It is self-defense. Wayang Kulit is Shadowing/puppets “sport.” You build wooden figures then make them move with your hands. In Malaysia they play sports like field hockey, ping-pong, badminton, boat, horse, car racing, and soccer. Plus much more!

  8. There is an insect museum with live insects. • There is also a gift shop. The Butterfly Park • There are over 6,000 butterflies in the park. • There are over 120 species of butterflies in the park. • To keep the butterflies from escaping, there is a net high above your head. • The Butterfly Park is an imitation of the Butterflies natural habitat. • To make the park pretty, they used over 15,000 plants. • There are also ponds in the park.

  9. It is either hot or rainy in Malaysia. So people always have fun.

Singapore is a small country in Southeast Asia. • The city of Singapore is built around its harbor. • It is the busiest port in Southeast Asia. • English is the language of speech in all schools in Singapore. • Street Markets in Singapore bring shoppers from many countries, and about 3 million people visit the city every year.   11. Malaysian Animals • This is the Sumatran rhinoceros. • It is the smallest rhinoceros measuring only 250 centimeters.

  12. Another Malaysian animal • This is an other Malaysian animal and it is called the Malayan Tapir. • It is a pig-like animal with a short snout.

  13. THAIPUSAM Thaipusam is a Hindu festival. Participants pierce their skin ! How painful would that be? VERY PAINFUL! They walk seven miles in the Batu Caves! Thaipusam THAIPUSAM THAIPUSAM

  14. They spear their cheeks and ask for forgiveness. That is weird and disgusting. People scream and shout because of pain!

  15. The Mouse Deer • The Mouse Deer is better known as the Sang Kancil. • It is 70 cm long, 30-35 cm tall and weighs 5-8 kg.

  16. The top five most endangered animals are the Black Shrew. Sumatran Rhinoceros, Malayan Tapir. Mouse Deer, and Orangutan. Malaysian Animals

  17. Orangutan • The Orangutan is the world’s smartest animal. • The Orangutan got its name from the Malay word “ Orang Hutan” which means “forest man”.

  18. Endangered Animals • This the Black Shrew. • They are rarely seen in Malaysia. • They are 20-100 mm long. • They have NO files of the Black Shrew. • This animal likes to be aggressive to other animals.

  19. The Malayan Tapir • It is a pig-like animal with a short snout. • They have thick skin and can run fast. • They can look like a rock whenever they lie down.

  20. Malayan Mouse Deer Malayan mouse deer • The mouse deer is better known as the sang ka • The Malayan Mouse Deer is better known as the Sang Kancil. • It is 70 cm. long, 30-35 cm. tall and weighs 5-8 kg. • They eat fruits and leaves.

  21. Orangutan • The Orangutan got its name from the Malay word Orang Hutan, which means forest man. • They are the smartest animals in the world.

  22. Enjoy bungee jumping and archery at this extreme park. The people in Malaysia are very lucky.

  23. GO TO THEEXTREME PRK PARK THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE GET TO DO EVERY DAY IF THEY WANT. GO TO THE WATER PARK ON A BEAUTUFIL DAY.

Malaysian Foods • Malaysian food is a lot different than ours. • There are lots of vendors who push carts around the streets selling their foods. • They sell satay (which is roasted chicken on a stick served with hot sauce). • They also sell bakso which is a steaming bowl of soup filled with vegetables, noodles, and little pieces of meat. • Gado gado is a vegetable dish and ice topped with a tasty peanut sauce. • Rice is the main food in Malaysia. • They eat rice with meat, fish and fish sauce, fruit and vegetables.

  27. Thaimpusam Festival • The Thaipusam Festival is to honor Shiva’s son. • They pierce their bodies with hooks and spears as a sacrifice. The Thaipusam festival takes place in the Batu caves. Thiampusam Festival

  28. Devotees prepare for the celebration by cleansing themselves through prayer and fasting approx-48 days before Thaipusam. • Devotees will go into a trance and that will change them. • A devotee will pray and let a demon into their body before they get pierced.

  29. CHINESE NEW YEAR The celebration of dragon dances, fireworks and family gatherings. Decorated with duilian. Duilian is a Chinese poetry. Window and doors are painted red for good luck. Cooked dumplings are for good wishes for the family all year. They also have red envelopes with money. Red is for good luck if you wear it or have it painted on.

Chinese New Year • This year Chinese New Year was held on February 3. • Next year it will be held on January 23. • It is celebrated in Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Tibet, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and China town!!!! • Ang pow are given out with money (ang pow are red envelopes). We received ang pow from our pen pals. • The dragon is a symbol of good fortune and a sign of intense power, the Oriental Dragon is regarded as a divine beast . • Snakes are charming, gregarious, generous, and smart. • The Chinese New Year also consists of special feasts. This is a lion dance at New Year

Window panes and doors are painted red to drive away bad luck. • People even wear red to guard off evil spirits. • Dumplings are boiled for long lasting good wishes. • At the New Year’s festivals they have lion and dragon dances, fireworks and family gatherings. • They also decorate with duilian (duilian is poetry).

  34. The Kuala Lumpur Bird • Park was established in 1991. • It was officially opened by her majesty the queen of Malaysia. • This bird is the Malaysian Horn bill.

  39. Malaysia caves • Did you know Malaysia has some of the biggest and longest caves in the world? • Some even have underground rivers. • Rock paintings have been dated 1,200 years ago.

Durian • The durian’s nickname is the king of all fruits. • The durian has a reddish yellowish color inside it. • The durian tree is located in 18 countries. • The durian tree takes 4-5 years to grow and 3 months for the fruit to ripe. • Before the durian opens you can smell it from 25 miles away.

  42. The only place in the U.S.A that grows Durian is Hawaii. The inside and the outside of the Durian Durian Before it is ripe

  43. Malaysian Rainforest • Malaysia rainforest has a swamp. • The sea level is about 900 meters. • South east Malaysian rainforest are the oldest on earth. • There are lots of plants and animals.
