Bulimia: Binging and purging • Vomiting – Often immediately after eating (purging) • Laxative abuse- Intentionally clearing bowels • Exercise- binge exercising (only goal is to lose immediate weight • Shame and guilt- secretive • Mood swings
Risk Factors • Overweight as a child • They participate in a sport that demands thinness [i.e. wrestler, rowers, dancer, cheerleader] • They have a job or profession that demands thinness [i.e. actors/actresses, models, or entertainers] • Societies that are fixated on physical appearances -Media -Reality TV -Hollywood
