Observations from the Field • Teacher focused classrooms with lectures, videos, and powerpoint overkill • Lack of critical thinking, analyzing, debating, supporting arguments and counter-arguments • Lack of primary and secondary sources • Lack of excitement and relevance to real life • Going beyond the standard- teaching things from the past you feel they should have learned. Ex 2nd grade teacher teaching Kindergarten material. • Not teaching every standard and element

How to Improve in Social Studies • Stop working so hard and let the students work hard instead. • Get students thinking in social studies and excited about learning the relevance of our subject. • Teach every standard and every element • How assessment works (DOK 2 Questions) • Utilize PICTURES FREQUENTLY • Utilize DOE and GCEE resources
