Name what device(s) is being used here. Explain it including its meaning and the value of the figurative language. Juliet: “Tis twenty years til then.” (spoken towards the end of the balcony scene in saying goodbye to Romeo Hyperbole; alliteration Juliet can’t stand the thought of being separated from her love, even for a few hours, since it’s early morning when she says these words. The alliterative hyperbole reveals the depths of their intense love, and perhaps also reveals how young and foolish they are.
Name what device is being used here. Explain it including its meaning and the value of the figurative language. “Love goes towards love as schoolboys from their books; But love from love towards school with heavy looks.” (spoken by Romeo as he’s leaving the balcony since he thinks Juliet has gone inside for the night). Simile; Romeo used this twisted comparison to express how sad it is for him to leave his love by comparing leaving her with the way students feel when they have to go TO school. Being reconnected with one’s love is like students getting out of school—they feel delighted. The insightful simile is something anyone who’s been to school can relate to and it therefore has universal appeal.
