  1. My Country - Portugal My Town – Setúbal

  2. Portugal is a country located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. It is the westernmost country of mainland Europe and is bordered by the Atantic Ocean to the west and south and by Spain to the north and east. The Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira are also part of Portugal.

  3. The District of Setúbal

  4. How to get to Setúbal

  5. The surroundings • Inland to the west and south of Setúbal is the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado, a nature reserve park consisting of vast stretches of mud flats, lagoons and small forests of pine trees. To the west of the town is the famous Portinho da Arrábida, a large cove type beach facing south and protected from the north winds by a 300 metres high slope.

  6. In Arrábida Natural Park you can enjoy nature with trekking, pedestrian walks, paragliding, diving, going to the beach or fishing.

  7. Acolony of dolphins lives in the “Sado” River, and across the river from Setúbal lies the peninsula of “Tróia”, where several high-rise luxury resorts have been built.

  8. Setúbal • The town has become the third largest port in Portugal as it well sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean. It lies to the south of Lisbon and a good motorway provides easy access. The town of Setúbal is attractive with many pedestrian streets, gardens and interesting shops

  14. The History of the School • The school was founded in 1857, having started classes on August 2, 1858, and it was named Liceu Municipal (Municipal High School). It went through several designations, until it was given its present one, Escola Secundária de Bocage. • It was a Portuguese State mandatory that all Secondary Schools should adopt a patron’s name. The decision to name our school after the poet Bocage had to do with the fact that he had been born in Setúbal, as well as with the fact that the school had been named after him long before.

  15. The Building • The present building was officially inaugurated on February 6, 1949, but didn’t start functioning until April 30, and it is bordered by streets named after former teachers and principals of this institution • This half-century old building has undergone two enlargement and repair works, and is home to about 1400 people, including teachers, students and staff.

  16. Some information... • There are 21 classes of 7th, 8th, 9th formers, which is called Basic Education • There are 26 classes of students attending the 10th, 11th, 12th forms, which is called Secondary Education • They do a lot of different subjects in the Basic Education - around 15 • They do only 7 subjects in the Secondary Education • Most of our students sit national exams and get a place at university • A great majority of our teachers (about 120 altogether) is above 40 years old • A lot of teachers have retired in the last years and are near retirement age
