  2. PROBLEM:A 50-LB CABINET IS MOUNTED ON CASTERS THAT ALLOW IT TO MOVE FREELY(m=0) ON TH FLOOR. IF A 25-LB FORCE IS APPLIED AS SHON DETERMINE. GIVEN : WEIGHT = 50 LBS FORCE = 25 LBS & m=0 FIND: -ACCELERATION OF THE CABINET - RANGE OF VALUE OF h FOR WICH THE CABINET WILL NOT TIP METHOD: WORKING MODEL 2D 25lbf 36 in. h 24 in.

  3. LAYOUT OF BASIC MODEL 2D TOOLS THAT WILL BE UTILIZED IN SOLVING OF THIS PROBLEM CIRCLE RECTANGLE PIN JOINT RIGID JOINT FORCE

  4. THE DEFAULT UNITS ARE IN METERS SINCE WE WILL BE WORKING WITH INCHES LETS CHANGE THE UNITS: - CLICK ON VIEW - NUMBERS AND UNITS - IN THE PULL DOWN MENU SELECT “ ENGLISH (POUNDS)”

  5. MAKE THE CABINET USING RECTANGLE. CHANGE THE DIMENSIONS POSITION CG USING

  6. MAKE A PAIR OF CIRCLES AND PLACE THEM ON THE BOTTOM CORNERS. DOUBLE CLICK ONE OF THE CIRCLE AND A PROPERTIES WINDOW WILL POP OPEN. MAKE MASS OF THE CIRCLE .0001 LB AND ZERO OUT THE STATIC AND KINETIC FRICTION. PLACE A PIN JOINT AT THE CENTER OF EACH CIRCLE.

  7. DOUBLE CLICK THE RECTANGLE CREATED EARLIER, A PROPERTIES WINDOW WILL POP OPEN. CHANGE THE MASS TO 50 LBS.

  8. NOW WE WILL ADD THE GROUND USING THE RECTANGLE TOO. MAKE THE RECTANGLE AND PLACE IT CONTACT WITH THE CIRCLES. ONCE IN PLACE SECURE IT USING A RIGID JOINT. DOUBLE CLICK THE NEW RECTANGLE AND IN PROPERTIES WINDOW CHANGE STATIC AND KINETIC FRICTION TO BE ZERO.

  9. ADD FORCE AS SHOWN BELOW. CLICK ON THE FORCE ONCE AND CHANGE ITS LOCATION AND MANGNITUDE USING THE TABS AT THE LOWER LEFT CORNER.

  10. CLICK ON THE CABINET, NOW CLICK ON “MEASURE” AND CHOOSE ACCELERATION AND CLICK ON X GRAPH. A GRAPH WILL APEAR IN WINDOW. BY CLICKING ON THE ARROW ( UPPER LEFT SIDE OF THE ACCERALTION GRAPH). NOW CLICK RUN. A) ACCERLATION OF CABINET = 192.06 IN/SEC^2 OR 16.1FT/SEC^2

  11. MOVE THE FORCE TO THE LEFT LOWER CORNER OF THE CABINET AND HIT RUN. YOU CAN RECORD FRAME BY CLICKING ON “WORLD” THEN SELECT “TRACKING” AND SELECT A DESIRED RECORDING FRAME. AFTER PLAYING AROUND WITH DIFFERENT HEIGHT WHERE THE FORCE WAS APPLIED LOWER VALUE CAME UP TO BE 12 INCHES.

  12. NOW THE FORCE IS APPLIED AT THE UPPER LEFT CORNER AND HIT RUN.

  13. RESULTS RED ZONE CABINET WILL TIP OVER 60 IN. SAFE ZONE CABINET WILL NOT TIP OVER 60 IN. 12 IN. RED ZONE CABINET WILL TIP OVER 12 IN.
