  2. STEPS • Preliminary Sketch: planning the details before cutting the design • Color Selection • 2 layers of cutting paper • Attaching layers using rubber cement

  3. DESIGN STAGES :PRELIMINARY SKETCH • Representational : (You may choose to cut layers that can represent an object or have a theme such as a landscape) • You may choose to cut layers that focus on details or small intricate designs. (can be curvy design- organic) or geometric (straight lines) • TIP: Layers must be cut to oppose the directions of the lines. (contrasting cuts – example: top layer can be primarily horizontal while the second layer has vertical cuts.

  4. COLOR SELECTION • Choose Contrasting Colors • Complementary Color Pairs to think about: • Red and Green , Blue and Orange; Yellow and Violet • TIP: the greater the contrast, the more successful the design

  5. CUT LAYER OBJECTIVEs: • Top layer: Should have smaller cuts, and an interesting design quality • Second layer: Fewer cuts in an the opposite direction • Third Layer: Solid color with no cutting • TIP : Don’t tear the cuts with your x-acto knife (neatness is an important quality in the design )

  6. REPRESENTATIONAL LAYER: THEMED

  7. NATURE VS GEOMRTRY
