  2. Upgrade your Netgear Router’s Firmware- Web Interface Method ABOUT US Use the computer or mobile device that is connected with your router’s network. It is recommended to connect computer and router via Ethernet cable and not wirelessly. Launch a web browser and access the router admin page by using its URL or default IP address. When you see the router login window; enter your admin user name and password in the respective fields. Type the correct values. Iif you know the default values, fill them. To update any new firmware version available, it will ask your consent; click on the “Yes” option. The firmware update will start downloading, after a little while it will be done.

Unzip the saved, downloaded file. It should have extension an .img or .chk extension.  Make sure your computer is connected to your router via an Ethernet cable instead of choosing a wireless option. Cable connection can help to upload firmware update fast and securely. On the flip side if you choose to update firmware wirelessly; it might get corrupted. Access the router admin login page by going to router website. In the login window; provide the username and password values. Ensure you type the correct spellings of login values . Check the router’s label to confirm the login values.Now, select the “Administration” option underthe “ADVANCED” tab. Find and click on the “Firmware Update” or “Router Update” button. You will see a new window popped-up having an empty filed to choose file and button to “Browse” file. Click on the browse button. Navigate to the location of the file (desktop/drive) click to open and upload.  It wouldn’t take much time, and your router will reboot after the firmware is uploaded completely. You can check the Router Status page to verify if the new firmware version is uploaded or not.
