  1. TCDSB Long Term Program Plan Presented Tuesday, March 27th, 2007 (abridged Nov ‘09)

  2. Long Term Program Plan (LTPP) • Program strong driver in LTAP • Key Considerations: • Catholic presence in all communities • Innovative and competitive programs • Compete with Private and Co-Terminous Board/schools – not our own Catholic neighbouring Secondary Schools • Interconnection within our communities • Range of programs – opportunities for all students • System perspective • Fiscal responsibility

  3. Brief Update (since April 2007) • 14 new Pathways Fast Forward Programs for a total of 24 across the system • 9 new Special High Skills Major Programs • 5 Dual Credit Programs • 7 new “specialty programs” • New LTPP committee has been resuscitated. • Goal: Updated Plan by Spring 2009 • Consultation with SSPA pending in Dec 09.

  4. Two key considerations: • Program is a key component in ensuring the viability of any given secondary school, however enrolment drivers are complex and caution should be observed in drawing 1:1 correlations between any given program and enrolment. • As schools in a collaborative enterprise of ensuring the viability of Catholic Education and a strong presence in the GTA, it is necessary to assess all schools within the SARC for what programs may needed to be added or moved. • Consideration of elementary programming in the area may also be warranted, particularly if considering a K-12 or 7-12 option.

  5. Secondary LTPP • Innovative programming seen as key • Specialty programs: provide students with a particular curriculum focus to assist them in meeting diploma requirements and in making the transition to post-secondary destinations. ( OSS, Grades 9 – 12, Program and Diploma Requirements, 7.4, 1999) • Fast Forward: • Leading to Workplace or College Pathways • “Specialty Programs” as employed in LTPP: • Leading to College or University Pathways
