  2. Do Now 1 List and describe in a few sentences the correct order of the scientific method. Explain the purpose of a control group. Who was your science teacher last year? What science course did you take? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

  3. Do Now 2 • Pick up the article from Mrs. D and read it silently. • Analyze the article and describe what it means about the brain. List and explain some details that you didn’t know about the brain and how this information can help you pass this biology class and the EOC?

  4. Exit Pass 2 1. What hand do you write with, analyze the lecture and explain if it pertains to you. 2. Label the following diagram accordingly:

  5. Do Now 3 List and Describe the two parts of the nervous system. Create a diagram of the brain, labeling the appropriate parts. Explain the part of the brain that controls involuntary and voluntary movements. Give an example of each. You will be taking the baseline exam today, the quicker you finish the Do Now the more time you have for the exam.

  6. Do Now 4 Describe what seemed easy to you in the baseline exam and what seemed difficult. List the four lobes of the cerebrum, giving an example of a specific function localized there.

  7. Do Now 5 • Give the meaning of the following prefix/suffix words. Provide an example for each: • Photo- • -itis • Macr- • Tax- • Pseudo- • Eu- • Chloro- • -ase • -emia • Zyg- • -oma

  8. Do Now 6 List and describe the eight characteristics of life. Apple trees share certain characteristics with other living things. Compare and contrast how the apple tree and the grass growing below are similar and different. (hint: name the commonalities in the characteristics of life).

  9. Do Now 7 Get into groups of 4 (two groups will have five students). On one piece of paper write down all of the group members names. Your Lab is: Do Double Stuffed Oreos actually have double the stuffing of regular Oreos? On the same paper for your group write: 1) Experiment Question 2) Your hypothesis (include reasoning) 3) Your experimental design (procedures and materials needed) In order to begin the actual lab, Ms. D has to approve of the experimental design.

Exit Pass # 3,4,5,6,7 • Finish your lab report in your notebook, write all steps needed. • Problem Statement • Research • Hypothesis • Procedures • Materials • Data (charts, tables, pictures) • Conclusion • This is your rough draft for me to check, next class. • All students should have their own lab report. Problem statement, hypothesis, procedures, materials, and data should be the same in your group. • Everyone should have their OWN conclusion.

  11. Do Now 8 Define binomial nomenclature. Give an example. Analyze the reasons the Linnaean group Reptilia is not a true clade. Compare and contrast the newer ways of classifying animals with the traditional classification systems used.
