Lesson 1Addition & Subtraction of FractionsLines & Segments To add or subtract fractions that have the same denominators, add or subtract the numerators and record the result over the same denominator. If the denominators are not the same, it is necessary to find an LCD and rewrite the fractions over the same denominator. A mixed number is the sum of a whole number and a fraction. When we add or subtract mixed numbers we handle the fractions and the whole numbers separately.

  2. Lines & Segments A mathematical line is a straight line that has no width & no depth. A part of a line is called a line segment. A line segment contains the endpoints and all the points between the endpoints. Ex. 1.1 10/11 - 5/6 + 1/3 Ex. 1.2 Segment AC is 10¼ units. Segment AB measures 4 3/7units. Find BC.
