KS3. What is World Book Day?. World Book Day is a worldwide celebration of books and reading. On this day we join hundreds of other countries in this celebration of the pleasures of reading.

  2. What is World Book Day? World Book Day is a worldwide celebration of books and reading. On this day we join hundreds of other countries in this celebration of the pleasures of reading. Did you know that World Book Day originates from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts on St. George’s Day?

  3. World Book Day at Willowfield... There are lots of exciting activities to celebrate World Book Day this week. Have a look at the list below: *Year 7, 8 and 9 will be participating in Readathon from Monday 28th February 2011 to Friday 4th March. *Enter the World Book Day ‘Guess Who?’ Competition as a form group *Complete the World Book Day activities and enter the KS3 competition *Spend your World Book Day voucher in the Library on World Book Day and save some money on a fantastic new book.

  4. World Book Day – Book sale On Thursday 3rd March, to celebrate World Book Day, every student in the school will receive a £1 book voucher. This voucher can be redeemed in the Library on any of the new books Waterstones have sent us. There are even some £1 books that you can buy, so make sure you go to the Library to see the wonderful range of books on offer! Thursday 3rd March – Library – 12:55-1:40 You can also use your voucher in participating books stores such as Watertstones and WH Smith in Selbourne Walk!

  5. World Book Day Guess Who? competition You are going to see pictures of staff in the school and a reason why they like their favourite book. You will then see pictures of all of the books. You have to decide as a form which Teacher likes which book. Once you have made your decision, fill in the ‘Guess Who?’ entry form and hand to Ms. Joseph by Friday 11th March. The tutor group with the most correct answers will win a prize.

  6. Guess Who? Mr. Quayam’s favourite book is easy for students to access and to learn from. He loves it because it is also key to exam success.

  7. Guess Who? Ms. Cockley’s favourite book reminds her of the struggle of being a teenager. Ms. Cockley thinks this book would be great for year 11 readers.

  8. Guess Who? Ms. Riseley’s favourite book is set in Germany in 1939. Ms. Riseley loves this book because she thinks it is beautifully written and she would recommend it to KS4 students.

  9. Guess Who? Ms. Jones Lee’s favourite book deals with dark issues, but still contains some humour. It also relates to some of the topics studied in Citizenship.

  10. Guess Who? Ms. Pirie’s favourite book is about strange lands and creatures. Ms. Pirie would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy novels.

  11. Guess Who? Mr. Hartavellas’ favourite book is known as a ‘classic’. It was set in London in the 1800s. Mr Hartavellas likes this book because it is full of action.

  12. Guess Who? Ms. Joseph’s favourite book is about relationships, school, morals and family. Ms. Joseph would recommend it to KS4 students who like a book with tension, suspense and surprises.

  13. Guess Who? Mr. Burvill’s favourite book is a biography. It is a book that can make you feel happy, sad, disgusted and excited for the character. Mr Burvill would recommend this book to boys in KS3.

  14. Guess Who? Ms. McLean’s favourite book is an adventure story. Ms. McLean would particularly recommend the updated versions of books by this author.

  15. Guess Who? Ms. Miller’s favourite book is a period drama about two people who dislike each other at first and then they fall in love.

  16. Guess Who? Ms. Doyle’s favourite book is about the building of a cathedral in England in the 12th century. Ms. Doyle would recommend it to KS4 students who enjoy reading about lots of different stories that are all connected.

  17. Guess Who? Mr. Hoffman’s favourite book covers the problems people face in everyday life. It is a book about perseverance and the belief that you can overcome your problems.

  18. Guess Who? Ms. Walker’s favourite book is about adventure and friendship. It is about a boy making a friend in a very unlikely setting.

  19. Guess Who? Ms. Melvill’s favourite book is shocking and thought-provoking, with a rich variety of colours. It has a very interesting structure, with two plots that run simultaneously throughout the novel.

  20. World Book Day Competition KS3 Read the titles of the books below, design what you think the book cover would look like and hand to Ms. Joseph by Friday 11th March.
