What the heck is WEA-PAC? WEA-PAC is WEA’s voluntary political action committee, which funds our pro-public education candidates for legislature, statewide office and school boards
Politics: A Fact of LifeSomeone in an elected position will determine the following things for you: • The qualifications you need to teach • The size of your class • Whether you can bargain a contract to protect you • The amount of your pension • Whether you have tenure • The textbooks you may use • The salary you earn
Politics: A Fact of LifeSomeone in an elected position will determine the following things for you: • Whether you will have a job in the future • The quality of the air you breathe • The cost of your healthcare • The education your children receive • Your unemployment benefits • The age you can retire • Whether you can stay home when your family is ill
Politics: A Fact of Life • Politics and politicians regulate pretty much every aspect of our work lives in public education • 75% of public school funds come from state legislature • State legislature sets policies on salary, insurance, retirement, class size and student performance • Maintaining the I-732 COLA and I-728 Class Size is possible only by keeping pro-education candidates in office • WEA-PAC is able to identify and support pro-public education candidates • WEA-PAC is also able to target those candidates who consistently support anti-public education legislation
What does this mean for us? We have a responsibility to elect people who make the decisions that affect our lives and careers.
How can you do your part? By joining WEA-PAC!
How do I join? • Fill out a membership form and commit to a minimum donation of $20 • What can I give up for $20 • 5 grande vanilla lattes at Starbucks • 7 lunches in the CRMS cafeteria • 4 movie rentals at Blockbuster • 2 tickets to a matinee and 2 small pops at the theater • Give your form to a building WEA-PAC rep or Jennifer Anderson to mail or put a stamp on it and mail it yourself
