This guide provides an overview of the computing facilities and services available to new faculty at the University of Missouri-Rolla. Presented by Meg Brady, Assistant Director of Client Services, it covers essential topics such as computer accounts, instructional and research computing, administrative systems, and obtaining help. Key resources include Single Sign-On (SSO), Active Directory (AD), departmental support, email services, and networking options, along with guidance on how to acquire hardware and software. Campus connection to the Internet Via MOREnet (a State consortium) Two 45mbps lines one carrying commodity Internet + university business + video classes one carrying Internet2 traffic Dial-up – 288 modems – 56K v.90 provided by UMR local ISPs, phone and cable companies offer high speed, for which UMR supports VPN (virtual private networking) Internet / Networking • Wireless network – • 802.11b IEEE standard, up to 11mbps • Increasing availability on campus University of Missouri-Rolla • Computing and Information Services
