  2. Processes are the ‘doings’ and ‘happenings’ of things we participate in or experience.

  3. In your English book make these headings in 3 columns. ParticipantsProcesses Circumstances

  4. Whatprocesses are taking place in this picture? Let’s make a list of processes putting rolling licking boiling smiling lifting rolling holding standing wearing cooking The questions we need to ask are: What is happening? What are theydoing? Write these processes into the processes column in your book

  5. For each processwe can identify one or more Participant, these can be human or non-human. How would you identify the participants in this picture?   6. What about the circumstances? The ‘how’, ‘when’, ‘where’ and ‘why’? When After mixing the apple, mother pig gavethe spoon tobaby pig. Where? How? Mother pigputthe delicious apple pie into the oven. The pig wearing the apron is rolling the dough into a round shape Why? The boy pig is making a gingerbread man for his teacher Write the circumstances in your circumstances column in your book.

Types of Processes There are different types of processes we use: Material process: when a physical action takes place Eg: The dog chased the cat under the house The cat ran swiftly across the yard. Mental or sensing processes: where mental actions take place Eg: The cat felt annoyed with the dog. The dog wondered why the cat had run away. Verbal processes: where speech is projected or reported. Eg: Jane shouted at the dog. Elizabeth said she didn’t like Amy’s dress. “Go away!” Miss Jones shrieked fearfully at the big black spider. Relational or being processes: are about with who or what someone is or what they have. Eg: The cat is still on top of the fridge! The dog hasreally big teeth. Mrs Miller isa teacher. Rover Thomas wasa talented painter.

  8. Put these headings in your book then sort the words below into The correct column.
