  1. Defeating More Animals… LO: to describe how you have defeated the strange animals, focusing on descriptive writing and adverbs.

  2. Day Four • You have crossed the river and reached the stony desert. • You are all very tired • You have not eaten for nearly six hours • It is beginning to get dark • You have decided to make camp in a rocky place.

  3. Day Four • Just at that moment there is a terrible noise. • You look round and find yourselves face to face with a terrible creature, • It is nearly dark and at first you cannot see whether it is a Dragon, or a Margatroth or a Balrog

  4. The Monsters • The dragon is 16 metres long and like most dragons, breathes flame. It can kill by burning or crunching its victims in its jaws. The wizard can sometimes can calm it. It can be killed by a warrior’s sword – if he can get close enough.

  5. The Monsters • The Margatroth is a huge creature with two heads one at each end. It has fierce teeth and six legs. It is very dangerous to all living things except hobbits. They are too small for the Margatroth to see easily. It can only be killed by cutting off one of its two heads.

  6. The Monsters • The Balrog’s body is made of fire. It can glow dully or flame brilliantly. • The only weapon you use against it is water. The only water you is a small supply of drinking water, and you are in the middle of a desert, There is one chink of hope, the Balrog only moves quite slowly.

  9. Defeating the Dragon (animal of choice) • The army had trudged for miles in the deep undergrowth and their stomachs were shouting deafening pleas for food. Suddenly they jumped! Deathly silence descended upon the entire group. Touchfire began to shake and slowly slid down onto the ground. Daughty groaned as he knew he had another weight to carry. Then they saw a flare of fire coming from the direction of a long, low curl of smoke leading to the sky: a dragon took off into the air/ a brilliant golden flame burst in front of them! A dragon!
