January 2008 – National FFA Board of Directors Meeting • Board postponed revision process for 1 year • Approved Strategic Guidelines for Revision Process • Established Revision Steering Committee of nine individuals representing: • State Staff (2) • Teacher Educators (2) • Local Teacher (2) • Business and Industry Representative (1) • Career and Tech Education Director (1) • Award and Recognition Advisory Committee Rep (1)

  3. Revision Steering Committee Meeting June 2008 • Developed action steps to address Strategic Guidelines (see handout) • Appointed the National FFA Awards and Recognition Advisory Committee to oversee revision & provide third party review • Committee: • Board of Directors (2) • NAAE (2) • NASAE (2) • AAAE (2) • Award and Recognition Committee Superintendent Rep (1) • Action steps approved at August 2008 board meeting

January 2009 Awards and Recognition Advisory Committee Meeting • 26 evaluation committees established; 1 for each award area • Individuals representing: NAAE (27), AAAE (33), NASAE, Business and Industry (26) General Education (2) • Selection of evaluation committee members based on input from FFA staff, event superintendents, business and industry and FFA Foundation • Each committee evaluated content, rules and formats • Evaluated alignment of current content to AFNR Standards • Developed recommendations impacting specific award or event revisions to be implemented by event committees

Evaluation Committee Recommendations • The specific AFNR standards for each area to address • Increase rigor and relevance based on current needs of business and industry • Use of level 2 and level 3 mastery measurements • Level 1 mastery attained and tested at local or state levels. • Addition of a Veterinary Science CDE • Reflective evaluation of skills - proficiency awards • Capture instructional time for each pathway – American Degree

Award and Recognition Advisory Board Action – January 2010 • Approved Evaluation Committee’s recommendations • Recognized that participation in national events is one method of measuring technical skill attainment (TSA) • Recommended development of a mastery certificate for all participants in national career development events • Recognized state’s need to define how mastery certificate, American Degree or national proficiency recognition will be used to meet state requirements for TSA

  7. January 2010 – August 2010 • Event committees implemented Evaluation Committee’s recommendations and made formal revision recommendations to CEO • Individuals (144) representing NAAE (46), AAAE (53), NASAE (16) , Business and Industry (36), general education(3) • participated in 31 meetings • August 2010: CEO reviewed and approved revision reports from each committee.

  8. What’s Next? • Summer 2011: Trainers present state inservice with support of FFA Staff • August 2011: Revised handbooks released to general population • School year 2011-12: Revised rules, formats and applications used by states to select national winners • National FFA Convention 2012: All events delivered using revised rules and formats.
