What is this course? • This is a professional blended learning course designed to equip existing/future African leaders with a commanding understanding of the key elements in the development of knowledge societies. • This course will build leaders’ capacities to be agents of changein their ministries, organisations and regions for the development of the knowledge society in Africa.

Role of GESCI GESCI as the host institution for ALICT will take full responsibility for the professional delivery of the course GESCI is expected to: • Ensure all partners are well informed of the start of the course and provide them with continuous progress updates • Prepare a list with contact details of all important role players • Ensure role players are well informed about their specific roles and responsibilities • Establish smooth communication between all role players • Be on the forefront of all f-2-f activities and online activities • Respond immediately to any reported problems • Prepare course requirements for certification • Prepare evaluation links for all modules • Prepare certificate templates for successful participants • Monitor the entire progress of the course at various intervals (quality assurance)

Role of e-Tutor • The ALICT e- tutors will facilitate participants’ learning experience throughout this courseThe e-Tutors are expected to: • Welcome participants to the virtual platform • Ensure participants are aware of all details of the module requirements • Keep participants informed of what is expected of them • Compile participant progress sheets • Be available to participants and respond to all mails in 24 hours • Remind participants to familiarise themselves with module content • Post module evaluation link • Provide participants instruction on completion of main assignments • Moderate some of the participant chats and discussion forum threads • Summarise key issues that participants discuss in chats and forums • Provide structured feedback to participants on their progress

Role of Systems Administrator The systems administrator will respond to participants’ technical issues The systems administrator is expected to: • Ensure virtual space is functional • Set up and operate help desk • Ensure all tutors and participants are registered on the virtual platform • Ensure virtual platform manual is finalised • Ensure module contents, resources, communication tools are active • Liaise regularly with module tutors regarding platform functionalities

Role of Participant • The ALICT participants will be active learners Participants are expected to: • Ensure that they receive their login details and test their access • Report any access problems to the Helpdesk • Consult the virtual platform usermanual • Fill in their profile details • Read the module content and mandatory material • Be aware of who their module tutor is • Eengage in critical thinking on KS issues • Consistently contribute to chats and discussion forums • Engage with other participants and their group peers • Undertake some research on KS topics • Meet all assignment deadlines • Be a committed team player throughout the course

  21. Role of Team • ALICT participants will work in country teams • Teams are expected to: • Complete main assignments collaboratively • Engage in peer-to-peer learning • Identify common issues and challenges • Identify common opportunities • Nominate a team coordinator

  22. Team Coordinator When choosing your team coordinator consider the following: • Reliability • Existing work load • Communication • Commitment The most senior person doesn’t necessarily make the most suitable team coordinator!

  26. Acknowledging Sources When using another’s work, whether it has been found through a google search or in a book, the source must always be acknowledged.

Certification • ALICT participants will receive a certificate of completion of this course provided that: • The participant completes all seven modules • The participant submits all main assignments • Assignments are satisfactory • Participants have consistently contributed to chats and discussion forums
