  1. The Nets are Full. Luke 5: 1 – 11.

  2. Jesus has Compassion on the Crowd: V 1 – 3. • Everything Jesus did was infused with Compassion.

  3. A Strange Request: V 4 – 5. • There is great irony in a carpenter telling a fisherman how to fish!

  4. Surprising Results: V 6 – 7. • Jesus is naturally supernatural. • He shows He is Lord of creation. • He is an abundant God. • “In the rush, something profound dawns on Peter. What has taken place is no accident; only an agent of God could have produced such a catch in the middle of the day” (Bock).

  5. A Humble Confession: V 8 – 9. • Peter is overwhelmed by the holiness and presence of Jesus. • He becomes acutely aware of his own sinfulness, and asks Jesus to depart from him, because of his human frailty. • ‘Peters confession becomes his resume for service’.Bock.

  6. A New & Higher Calling: V 10 – 11. • ‘Do Not FEAR’!!! • How well our God knows us! • Jesus then goes on to issue Peter with his whole life calling • ‘From now on you will catch men’.

  7. Application • Peter’s willingness to cast out his net. • Peter’s humility before Jesus. • Peter’s willingness to leave everything to follow Jesus.

  8. Conclusion • Jesus taught Peter that sinners who turn to God are the people God can use most! • So Peter followed Jesus. • Will you?
