  3. 6th Grade Parents • Thank You for your patience as your children were mouthpiece tested. I know that is a confusing process at times… • If your child still needs a book, instrument, or anything else necessary for band class please let me know asap • We have been quite fortunate this year at Northwest Middle as far as having the ability to provide instruments to low-income students

  4. Grades • Major Assessments 50% •  Concert performances (required performance = required attendance) • Minor Assessments 50% •  In class playing tests •  Compositional assignments •  Class Participation •  Exercise/Music pass-off’s

  5. Practice Suggestions Students should: • Practice a little every day. • Schedule practice time into the daily schedule. • Practice things they can’t play well. • Prepare exercises for the next class meeting. • Practice in a quiet area free of distractions (brothers, sisters, TV, cell phones, etc.) • Play a short concert each week for family. • Sit in a chair for good posture.

  6. SmartMusic • Makes practice more fun and engaging • Structures student practice • Will be used in class as an assessment tool • Comes with tools that every musician needs to have handy • Not required, but strongly encouraged. Would make a great Birthday or Christmas present!
