What To Expect As A 6th Grader The start of the school day Class schedules and times PPMS will operate a straight 7 period schedule with 47 minute class periods School dismissal is 4:10 PM, however the teacher dismisses the class, not the bell! • Students may arrive by 9:15 AM and the school doors will open at 9:20 AM. • Breakfast begins at 9:20 AM. • First signaling bell rings for classes at 9:35 AMand classes begin IMMEDIATELYat 9:40 AM. • Students are to be inclass, in your seat and prepared to begin learning or you are considered late! Take care of personal issuesbefore class not during class 

What To Expect As A 6th Grader How to walk in the hallway Behaviors to avoid Running is a behavior that is avoided, instead you are expected to walk, and will be asked to go back and walk if you are seen running-remember SAFETY FIRST! • Be sure to stay to one side of the hallway when walking- students will be redirected promptly if this process is not correctly modeled! The middle of the hallway is to always be a student free zone!

Do’s and Don'ts for Success Do- The expectation The consequences for not following the expectations If you fail to adhere to the dress code-consequence is the ABC room for the day where you miss invaluable instructional direction and support. Failure to follow the rule will cause your cell phone to be confiscated and a parent will have to come and pick it up before or after school. NO EXCEPTIONS! The consequences of failing to abide by any of these guidelines means that there are choices that will have to be made that will result in a negative impact, and these are all avoidable offenses so there shouldn’t be a reason to break any of them! • Respect is not an option, it is a requirement and works both ways! • Do adhere to the school dress code! Posted on the PPMS website. • Cellphone free campus-leave it turned off and out of sight while on campus-THIS IS NOT NEGOTIABLE!!!! • Food outside of the cafeteria is not acceptable-example, no chips, hot fries, or drinks permitted on campus.

Classroom Supplies • Examples of supplies include paper, pencils, pens, composition tablets and folders, it is not the teacher’s responsibility to provide supplies daily so please plan in advance to be prepared for success. • Please know we will make every attempt to assist with supplies, however understand that a teacher may provide resources if they so desire but they are not obligated to do so, please plan accordingly. • Students will be permitted to carry their backpacks, due to construction. • Students are expected to follow the direction of faculty and staff in regard to placement of the backpack in the classrooms, media center, cafeteria, etc.

  6. 1.Be sure to have your child here on time each day • 2. Be sure your child is prepared to be successful each day by following the student dress code, student code of conduct, and school wide behavior plan. • 3. Be sure to be proactive and check Focus often for updates on student grades and assignment. Sign up for Parent Portal • 4.Be a resource for your school-SAC, PTSA, volunteer and many other services are needed that you are able to help. • 5. READ THE STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT-YOU AND YOUR CHILD ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING THE CONTENTS! • 6. Regularly contact teachers through Email or phone be sure to include specific areas of concern-check the link our website for teacher and administrators email addresses • 7. Teachers should return contact you within 24-48 hours (unless a weekend or holiday) What To Expect As A Parent The Key to success is Communication PARENTS AND GUARDIANS IT WILL TAKE ALL OF US TO MAKE PINELLAS PARK THE A SCHOOL IT IS MEANT TO BE!

Where To Locate Important Information Parent Support Student Support Don’t wait for your child to fall behind in their grades before help is sought; be proactive and have them attend free ELP tutoring, which is our Extended Learning Program. SPORTS ELIGIBILITY • Academics are and will always be our first priority as a school family so in order to be eligible to participate in any type of sport, the following must first be met: • 2.0 GPA or higher required to try out! • You must have the right attitude to be apart of any team-your attitude will determine your altitude! (in simple terms-ACT RIGHT!) • A school physical, permission slip and school insurance is required before trying out- (insurance must be submitted online) • Tryouts are announced during the morning announcements. • Obtain participation form from the coach.

  12. Medical Concerns • Medications should be brought to school by an adult in the original prescription bottle and signed in with the nurse. (Ms. York)

Student Safety • As a PPMS student your child becomes our child and we want all of our students to be and feel safe- so before a misunderstanding becomes more than that, please have your child make an adult aware so we can resolve the matter promptly and peacefully. • Bullying Prevention is one of our top priorities and will be quickly addressed-LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY!

Grade level office hours 8:40 AM– 4:30 PM Report Cards: dates for distribution are in your student agenda which will be distributed during school hours Progress reports are issued the 4th week of each grading period. If your student will be out sick or missing school, parents/guardians need to call the 6th grade office to report the absence. All notes for excused absences are to be turned in to the 6th grade clerk within 24 hours of return to school. Frequently Asked Questions

  15. If your student rides a bus, they should ride the bus to and from school the first day! Students should arrive to the bus stop 15 minutes before the scheduled pick up time. School expectations and rules apply on the bus. You can only ride the bus you are assigned. BUS TRANSPORTATION

In order to make this a success, we need EVERYONE to be involved. • Please positively respond when teachers call or email about your child.
