  2. Theo’s pack looks a little heavy…

  3. The importance of the call…

  4. Luke 9: 18While He [Jesus] was praying in private and His disciples were with Him, He asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” 19They answered, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, that one of the ancient prophets has come back.”

  5. Luke 9: 18While He [Jesus] was praying in private and His disciples were with Him, He asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” 19They answered, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, that one of the ancient prophets has come back.”

  6. 20“But you,” He asked them, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah!” 21But He strictly warned and instructed them to tell this to no one, 22saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.”

  7. 20“But you,” He asked them, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah!” 21But He strictly warned and instructed them to tell this to no one, 22saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.”

  8. 20“But you,” He asked them, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah!” 21But He strictly warned and instructed them to tell this to no one, 22saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.”

  9. 23Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it. 25What is a man benefited if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?”

  10. 23Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it.25What is a man benefited if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?”

  11. 23Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it. 25What is a man benefited if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?”

  12. Luke 9: 35“This is My Son, the Chosen One; listen to Him!” 36After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was found. They kept silent, and in those days told no one what they had seen.

  15. Listening to Jesus…

  16. “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross…”

  17. Does it glorify God?

  18. We must be still in order to hear His voice.

  19. Luke 12: 22Then He said to His disciples: “Therefore I tell you, don’t worry about your life, what you will eat; or about the body, what you will wear.23For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. 24Consider the ravens: They don’t sow or reap; they don’t have a storeroom or a barn; yet God feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than the birds? 25Can any of you add a cubit to his height by worrying? 26If then you’re not able to do even a little thing, why worry about the rest?

  25. 27“Consider how the wildflowers grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! 28If that’s how God clothes the grass, which is in the field today and is thrown into the furnace tomorrow, how much more will He do for you - you of little faith? 29Don’t keep striving for what you should eat and what you should drink, and don’t be anxious. 30For the Gentile world eagerly seeks all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.

  30. 31“But seek His kingdom, and these things will be provided for you.32Don’t be afraid, little flock, because your Father delights to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Make money-bags for yourselves that won’t grow old, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

  47. Luke 8: 11“The seed is the word of God.12The seed along the path [trampled on and eaten by birds] are those who have heard and then the Devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13And the seed on the rock [withered from no moisture] are those who, when they hear, welcome the word with joy. Having no root, these believe for a while and depart in a time of testing.
