  2. The 20th Century1900-Present • While MANY GREAT musical pieces came out of the 20th century, it was a time torn by war. While war covered the continents of Asia and Europe, composers created some of the pieces of music that formed todays culture.. These include styles, composers, and instruments.

John Williams • Williams has composed many scores for hit movies such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Jaws • He was won many awards such as Grammys, Golden Globes, and Emmys. • Was named nineteenth Conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1980 • Born in 1948-(not Deceased) American • Orchestral music was his style

  5. Joan Tower • She is recognized as one of the most important composers of this time. • She was the first woman to win the Grawemeyer Award. • Her main favorite instrument must be the piano. • Born in 1938-(not Deceased) American • Orchestral music was her style.

  6. Aaron Copland • Began to study music (Piano) at age 14. • Did pieces like “Rodeo” and “Appalachian Spring.” • Orchestral music was his style. • Born 1900-1990 American.

  12. Electric Piano • Produce sounds mechanically and the sounds are turned into electronic signals by pickups. Unlike a synthesizer, the electric piano is not an electronic instrument, but electro-mechanical. • Played in orchestras, church groups, and wanna-be bands • George Crumb • Pred: Piano

  15. Synthesizer • An electronic instrument (usually played with a keyboard) that generates and modifies sounds electronically and can imitate a variety of other musical instruments. • Played in a band, most renowned for its use in the American 80s • Vangelis • No predecesors.

  16. Keyboard • An electronic instrument similar to the piano; The plastic white and black piano-style keys which the player presses, thus connecting the switches, which triggers the electronic note or other sound. • Band or Church Group • Stevie Wonder • Pred: Piano

  17. As you can see, all the previous musical eras are pathetic, and uneducated in the art of music. All these previous eras however, have been leading up to the latest and greatest, THE 20TH CENTURY OF MUSIC! Shown to you were the instruments, styles, and composers of out era, but now it is your decision...
