  1. The Temple of Castor and Pollux

  2. Who built it? • The intial structure was buit by General AulusPostumiusAlbus in 484BC • Was restored, upgraded and refurbished various times, in: • 117 BC by Lucius Dalmaticus • 14BC after a fire • 6BC By Tiberius

  3. WHY Was it built? • The monument was built for, and dedicated to Castor and Pollux, divine twin brothers who, as legend would have one believe, assisted the ancient Romans in their victory at Lake Aegillius • In tandem with these religious connotations, Augustus rebuilt and refined the structure in order to further entwine the new line of imperialism with the perennial concept of religious devotion

  4. Main Features • Three massive columns remain • They are over forty-eight feet high • Columns were of white marble • Corinthian capitals have interlocking inner spirals

  5. These models show the Temple of Castor & Pollux, showing the decadence, expense and supreme craftsmanship the Ancient Romans were willing and very much able to achieve. Julia Racheha + Amanda Tsikas
