    2. Cardinal Ohio’s state bird is the Red Cardinal. It’s a songbird that lives in Ohio year round. The male is red and the female is brown.

    3. White - Tailed deer Ohio’s state animal is the White –Tailed deer. It’s called that because when it gets scared it’s tail flips up showing white.

    4. Red Carnation Ohio’s state flower is the Red Carnation. It honors Ohio president McKinley who was assassinated while in office.McKinley loved the flower.

    5. Flint Ohio’s state stone is Flint. It was used by early Indians to make arrowheads and knives. They used flint because it was so hard.

    6. Trillium Ohio’s state wild flower is the Trillium. The Trillium is found in all Ohio’s wooed areas.

    7. Black Racer snake Ohio’s state reptile is the Black Racer snake. It became a law in 1995 because a 4th grader thought we needed a state reptile.

    8. Trilobite Ohio’s state fossil is the Trilobite. It was a prehistoric sea animal. The Trilobite is covered with a shell. It also breathes with gills on it’s legs.

    9. Buckeye Tree Ohio’s state tree is the Buckeye Tree.It is called the Buckeye Tree because the seed looks like the eye of a buck.

    10. Ladybug Ohio’s state insect is the Ladybug. Farmers use ladybugs to eat other bug on the farm.

    11. Trivia Ohio was the first to have a National football team. Ohio has the most zoos. Ohio has the largest man made cavern.

    12. State Flag Ohio’s state flag is the ONLY flag that looks like a pennant. The flag has 17 stars because Ohio was the 17th state.
