  1. U.S.A Symbols Every nation has symbols - specific objects that represent beliefs, values, traditions, and other intangible ideas that make that country unique.

  2. FLAG of the U.S.A. The flag of the United States was commonly known as the "Stars and Stripes" or "Old Glory".

  3. FLAG of the U.S.A. The current flag is the 27th edition of the flag. It has 50 stars to represent the 50 states. The flag also has 13 stripes to represent the 13 original colonies.

  4. BALD EAGLE The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. It is not really bald and was once endangered. The bald eagle can only be found in North America and returns to the same nest each year. The bald eagle can be found on the dollar bill and our nations crest.

Many people believe that the bell was rung to mark the reading of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The bell is a symbol of their struggle to abolish slavery. It resides in the Liberty Bell center in Philadelphia.

  6. NATIONAL ANTHEM The nation anthem is called the "Star Spangled Banner". Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics to the anthem as a poem in 1814. The melody was borrowed from the tune of a popular British song. The song became official in 1931 replacing other songs commonly sung at public events.

  7. STATUE OF LIBERTY The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the Unites States from France. It is located in New York Harbor. The statue is an iconic symbol of freedom.
