Real Faith A Train is coming..
What is it mean to board the Faith train? I) What is Real Faith? What does it mean to live by Faith? Jesus in John 18 Corrie Ten Boom Seniors II) But isn’t this foolish? Francis Chan III) What real power does real faith give us?
What does Jesus have faith in?Sword or God? John 18 Jesus Is Betrayed and Arrested 1 After saying these things, Jesus crossed the Kidron Valley with his disciples and entered a grove of olive trees. 2 Judas, the betrayer, knew this place, because Jesus had often gone there with his disciples. 3 The leading priests and Pharisees had given Judas a contingent of Roman soldiers and Temple guards to accompany him. Now with blazing torches, lanterns, and weapons, they arrived at the olive grove. 4 Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them. “Who are you looking for?” he asked. 5 “Jesus the Nazarene,”[a] they replied. “I AM he,”[b] Jesus said. (Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.) 6 As Jesus said “I AM he,” they all drew back and fell to the ground! 7 Once more he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” And again they replied, “Jesus the Nazarene.” 8 “I told you that I AM he,” Jesus said. “And since I am the one you want, let these others go.” 9 He did this to fulfill his own statement: “I did not lose a single one of those you have given me.”[c] 10 Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest’s slave. 11 But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”
Summary Jesus calls us to live by faith. We see people in history, like Corrie Ten Boom live by faith. But many just think this is ‘foolishness’
Apologetics Christian apologetics is a field of Christian theology that aims to present a rational basis for the Christian faith, defend the faith against objections, and expose the perceived flaws of other world views. Christian apologetics have taken many forms over the centuries, starting with Paul of Tarsus, including writers such as Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas, and continuing currently with the modern Christian community, through the efforts of many authors in various Christian traditions such as C.S. Lewis and speakers such as Josh McDowell, William Lane Craig, and J. P. Moreland.
Foolish to live by Faith? Francis Chin is a well-known pastor in California. On 4/4/2010(starting at 10:00-12:00) (14:25-18)
To summarize: Some will think living by faith ‘foolish’ Some will look at the treasure offered by God and be willing to give up everything for it. But why does God want us to deny ourselves?
If we are on God’s side.. • We are on the side of God and his army of angels. • We get the power of God. • We loose the baggage of our lives. • We gain the insight and knowledge of God.
God also wants good for us To help us, he has given us rules. These rules are for us to live a BETTER life, not a worse life. They help us make the right decisions.
God knows what’s good for us. Teen girls' drinking may lead to breast problems later----USA TODAYPosted 11h 57m agoBy Kathleen Doheny, HealthDayFrequent alcohol consumption by teenage girls may increase the chances that they will develop non-cancerous breast disease in their 20s and possibly breast cancer later in life.Research published online April 12 in the journal Pediatrics found that girls who drank the most alcohol during their teen years — daily or nearly every day — were five times more likely to develop benign breast disease as young adults than were their peers who never drank or drank less than once a week.Benign breast disease (BBD) includes a number of nonmalignant conditions. Fibroadenoma, a noncancerous tumor, is the most common in those aged 30 and younger. Study co-author Catherine Berkey, a biostatistician at Harvard Medical School in Boston, said that benign breast disease is known to boost the risk for breast cancer. So does that mean that teens who drink alcohol are increasing their breast cancer risk early in life?"Our study may suggest that teen drinking increases the risk for breast cancer, whether in all females or in those who go on to develop BBD, but longer-term follow-up is certainly required" to confirm it, she said. ..
A unique aspect of Berkey's study was that the girls assessed their drinking habits while they were teenagers. Other studies have based their conclusions on adult women's recalling their teenage drinking many years later. "Our new study is the first in which alcohol data were collected during adolescence, with continued follow-up in the females as they develop disease,” she said. The study involved 6,899 women who had become participants in the "Growing Up Today Study" when they were 9 to 15 years old. Information on alcoholic beverage consumption was collected in a follow-up survey when the participants were 16 to 23 years old, and a survey done when they were 18 to 27 years old included questions on breast disease. In all, 147 participants reported having benign breast disease, with 67 cases having been confirmed by biopsy. When Berkey and her colleagues looked at the diagnoses of benign breast disease and drinking, they found that risk for benign breast disease rose along with the frequency of alcohol consumption: from a 1.5 increased risk for drinking one or two days per week, to a three times greater risk for those drinking three to five days per week, and to a 5.5 times greater risk for drinking six or seven days per week, when compared with those who never drank or who drank less than once per week.Even once-a-week drinkers may not be absolutely safe, Berkey noted. "I suspect there may be some small additional BBD risk for even small amounts of alcohol consumed during adolescence," she said.
Teen years are a critical time for potential cancer-producing exposures, she said, because the mammary glands are undergoing rapid growth during that period.Berkey said she suspects the link is due to alcohol increasing total estrogen levels, raising the likelihood of benign breast disease."For me, this is not a surprise," said Dr. Patricia Ganz, director of cancer prevention and control research at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, Los Angeles. Regular alcohol consumption is known to increase a woman's risk for both breast cancer and benign breast disease, she said, and "certain forms of BBD increase the risk of breast cancer."And though she described the new study as excellent, she cautioned that the sample size was relatively small."I wouldn't scare (teens) and say, 'You are going to get breast cancer if you drink,'" Ganz said. But, on the other hand, she added: "The public health message is, these young girls shouldn't be drinking anyway."
What happens when we go with Christ? 1) God has a better plan for our lives We think we know best. “I have to drink to have my friends.” 2) We gain 3 types of power.
But we also get power. Three types of power: 1) Power to ask God in prayer and have angels work on a solution. 2) Freedom from fears will release us. 3) Physical powers (miracles)
II) Freedom from fears:Back to F. Chan Example of power (20:35-24). Real People- Real Power
“You will receive power” Acts 1: 6 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” 7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Heros After a total eclipse casts its shadow across the globe, seemingly calling forth a multitude of everyday men and women with special powers, Dr. Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), a genetics professor from India, continues to champion his father's theory that there are people with extraordinary abilities living among us. Claire Bennet, an indestructible high school cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere,), must hide her ability from her peers while working to maintain her relationship with her father (Jack Coleman), a man of mystery who has a keen interest in people like her. Niki Sanders, a Las Vegas single mother (Ali Larter) with astonishing strength - and a dangerous, amoral mirror image (Jessica Sanders) - struggles to support and protect her young son Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey), a genius who can interact with electronic machinery through touch. Matt Parkman, a police detective (Greg Grunberg) from Los Angeles, attempts to put his ability to hear the thoughts of others to good use. In Japan, Hiro Nakamura's (Masi Oka) ability to pierce the space-time continuum and manipulate time has empowered him to change the future, as he embarks on wild adventures with his best friend Ando Masahashi (James Kyson Lee, "Shutter"). Nathan Petrelli, a congressional hopeful (Adrian Pasdar, "Judging Amy") with the ability to fly, has his dreams dashed after failing to stop his younger brother Peter (Milo Ventimiglia, "Rocky Balboa"), a nurse with the ability to absorb the powers of others, from exploding over the New York City skyline. And after this violent clash in New York, the fate of Sylar, a manipulative serial killer (Zachary Quinto, "24") dedicated to violently collecting the extraordinary talents of special people, is unknown. Meanwhile, in the Dominican Republic, a young woman named Maya Herrera (Dania Ramirez, "The Sopranos") and her twin brother, plagued by her threatening ability, attempt to make the dangerous crossing to the United States in search of help. And Monica Dawson, another young woman (Dana Davis, "The Nine") with newfound special abilities, would give up everything to help the people around her. Their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world...
What happens when we go with Christ? 1) God has a better plan for our lives God has a plan: For the World & for you. This plan is better than yours. Real Faith is living by God’s plans, not yours. Note: This does not mean we live easy lives. 2) We gain 3 types of power.
Song about the faith train. Curtis Mayfield And The Impressions - People Get Ready LyricsPeople get ready, there's a train a comin' You don't need no baggage, you just get on board All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin' Don't need no ticket, you just thank the LordPeople get ready for the train to Jordan It's picking up passengers from coast to coast Faith is the key, open the doors and board 'em There's hope for all among those loved the most. There ain't no room for the hopeless sinnerWho would hurt all mankind just to save his own Have pity on those whose chances grow thinnerFor there's no hiding place against the Kingdom's throneSo people get ready, there's a train a comin' You don't need no baggage, you just get on board All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin' Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord
