Supporting Families against Youth Crime Training Offer Two-day training available for all education providers in the City to build knowledge and awareness of issues relating to youth crime and exploitation • County Lines • Work with Girls • Cyber-Use • Trauma-Informed Practice • Cultural Competence Sessions based on consultation with schools regarding what would help to support them re: tackling youth crime, violence and exploitation.

Local Updates Contextual Safeguarding Conference Colwick Hall Wednesday 4th December 2019 - A National & County-wide Perspective - • Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Partnerships and the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) are pleased to invite frontline professionals from across the city and county to this multi-agency children’s safeguarding conference. The event will explore the current landscape around contextual safeguarding from a national and local perspective and will raise awareness of the VRU’s Public Health Approach, and how colleagues can get involved. Local Updates • HSB Audit Framework • An evidence-informed framework for children and young people displaying harmful sexual behaviours. • The audit is a multiagency tool designed to get an accurate picture of your (Nottingham's) current responses to HSB. Clear multi-agency action plan for improving responses to and provision for children & young people who display HSB in your local area • The nature of the audit process is designed to encourage multi-agency working • Identifying good practice locally empowers those teams and allows for local expertise to be identified and shared • Clear, concise evidence of the need locally, and of current provision means areas are better able to allocate resources where they will have most effect • On-going input from NSPCC with the implementation of your action plan • Access to annual community of practice events for areas who have completed the audit with us, to share best practice, findings & get support from each other

National Updates • State of the nation 2019: children and young people’s wellbeing • https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/state-of-the-nation-2019-children-and-young-peoples-wellbeing • Friendship, school and a good night’s sleep have all been named as key factors in a young person’s happiness, in the government’s first ever State of the Nation report on children’s mental wellbeing. • More than four in five young people aged between 10 and 24 say they are happy with their lives, in research published to mark World Mental Health Day today (Thursday 10 October), rating themselves happiest with their family and friends, their health, their school and their appearance. Bullying, including cyberbullying, remains a key reason for unhappiness or poor wellbeing, especially among teenage girls, while sleep and leisure time were also reported as important factors.

9. National Updates • Ofsted's Sean Harford, (National Director for Education) and Yvette Stanley (National Director for Social Care) have written a useful article about Peer-on-peer abuse. Peer-on-peer abuse happens in a wide-range of settings where children go. It might take place online, for example, in school or in the community. National Updates • Special educational need and disabilities • Source: Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman • Date: 04 October 2019The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman has published a report looking at the experiences of children and young people that have special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), and their families, who have brought complaints about the education, health and care (EHC) plan process. Findings show that: the number of complaints received increased by 45% from 217 cases in 2016/17 to 315 cases in 2018/19; and 87% of investigations in 2018/19 were upheld.Read the news story and download the report: A system in crisis? National Updates • Engaging parents with relationships education policy • Source: Department for Education  • Date: 10 October 2019The Department for Education (DfE) has published a guide for primary Headteachers in England about parental engagement in their school's Relationships Education policy, prior to Relationships Education becoming compulsory for all schools in September 2020.
