  1. CSR Hit the right arrow button when your group is ready to start.

  2. Preview • Go around and share what you wrote in the previewing step. • You do not have to share everything, but everyone must say at least one thing.

  3. Section 1: Read Quickly decide how your group will read: one person reading (everyone else follows), switch off reading (everyone follows), silently and alone. • Read Section 1 Make sure everyone can see the text and hear the reader. • STOP at the end of section 1

  4. Click and Clunk Each person, by themselves, write down any clunks you have.

  5. Click and Clunk As a group, discuss your clunks. Start with the ones that more than one person had. Remember, you may NOT just tell someone what a word means! Walk each other through the steps, give hints, ask questions. TEACH – don’t tell.

  6. Get the Gist As a group, decide: • WHO or WHAT is this section mostly about? • WHAT are the most important things you learned about that who or what? • Take your ideas and turn them into 1-2 well written sentences that include only the most important details.

  15. After Reading: Questioning Each person on their own, write three questions that someone could answer after reading the text carefully.

  16. After Reading: Questioning As a group, ask and answer questions. You may ask questions through… • Partners (two people back and forth) • To-the-left (go around the circle) • Hot Seat (ask your question to one specific person) • Each person must answer at least one question. • If someone gets a question wrong, be kind and polite in helping them figure it out or providing the answer.

  17. After Reading: Review Each person on their own, write what you think are the 1-2 most important things to remember about this text.

  18. After Reading: Review Together as a group, share your ideas. You do not have to share everything, but each person must say at least one thing.

  19. After Reading: Review Together as a group, come up with one group statement. Everyone should have the exact same statement on their paper.
