  2. Born : February 24, 1973 • She’ still alive • She was born in < Dothan, Alabama • She Became deaf at 18 months • She how she became deaf she had High fever , was rushed to Hospital . She had a re her to go reaction to diphtheria-tetanus vaccine caused her to go deaf.

  3. She went to a school called Central institute for the deaf too catch up after her parents divorced . • She also still attended Alabama school . • She graduated at Berry High school in 1991 it is now Hoovers high school.

  4. Coming into her career • She also competed in many beauty pageants. • She was Miss Alabama after she was Miss America . • 1995 she ended up winning Miss America again and cased her S.T.A.R program around.

  5. Family • Parents got divorced while she was in high school. • Mother – Daphne Gray • Father- • Husband – John McCallum • Married – June, 1996 • Now live in Atlanta • Children – three boys

  6. Impact on Deaf People first treated her different. But then she became miss America and spoke her mind about it and told the hearing people what was wrong to do in deaf culture . She became a voice.
