  13. Statue of David The slingshot is held over his shoulder while the other over-sized hand holds the rock. Unlike Donatello, who depicted the heroic David with Goliath’s head at his feet, Michelangelo selected the tense moment before the battle.

  15. Leonardo da vinci • Leonardo grew up in his father's home, and was exposed to Vinci's painting traditions. • When he was 15 years old he became an apprentice at a renowned workshop • Even as an apprentice Leonardo demonstrated incredible artistic talent.

Leonardo da Vinci • Because Leonardo's interests were so varied, he was easily distracted and had trouble completing projects. • During the 17 years he spent working for the Duke of Milan (1482-1499) he completed only six works • The Last Supper and The Virgin on the Rocks. • Dozens of paintings and projects were never completed.

Leonardo da Vinci • Throughout his life his interests led him to develop many talents and become many things including a mathematician, inventor, engineer, scientist, anatomist, painter, sculptor, botanist, architect, musician and writer. • He has been described as a renaissance man "whose unquenchable curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention."

MONA LISA • Interesting Facts: • The Mona Lisa is not insured. “The Mona Lisa is inestimable. “ • There are 30 layers of paint on Mona Lisa’s face • The original painting of Mona Lisa actually had her hair tied back. • The woman in the painting’s real name is Lisa Gheradini. Mona means madonna, or my lady. • The painting was stolen in 1911 and no one knew it’s whereabouts for 2 years.
