  3. DEFINITIONS • Arithmetic series: indicated sum of the terms of a sequence. • Sum of Arithmetic Series: The sum Sn of the first n terms of an arithmetic series is given by:

  4. Sigma Notation: simple form of shorthand used to give a concise expression for a sum of the values of a variable. The summation sign, , instructs us to sum the elements of a sequence.
