  2. Overview • When working in movie maker, your goal is to combine multiple video clips into one video • This program crashes frequently on our computers. SAVE YOUR WORK EVERY COUPLE OF MINUTES! • There is a difference between saving and publishing. • Saving keeps a copy of your progress (your instructions on where to put each clip, etc) but does not actually make a movie SAVE YOUR PROJECT TO YOUR PERSONAL DRIVE, SAVE FREQUENTLY, AND SAVE AT THE END OF THE DAY • Publishing takes the instructions you’ve been creating and saving and turns them into one new video file (You will only publish once, when your video is completely finished) Next

  3. Layout of the program Follow these steps! This will show a preview of your video You can add clips to your collection, and they will show up here Then you will drag them down HERE, to Your timeline OR storyboard Next

  5. Finding your clips Click “Import video” Navigate to My Computer, S Drive, DECADES folder Find your groups clips (TIP, if it doesn’t show a preview, change the view to ‘thumbnails’ Click once on the first of your clips Click Import Table of Contents Next

  6. Adding clips to your video Drag your clip from the “Collection” area to the “Storyboard” Table of Contents Next

  7. Adding clips to your video Repeat this process until you have your main stories in place. Table of Contents Next

Adding your pictures Click “Import pictures” Navigate to your personal drive, or wherever you saved your pictures (your group might need to get all pics on one student’s personal drive) Find your groups picture (use the thumbnails view) Click once on your first picture Click Import Table of Contents Next

  9. Adding pictures to your video Drag your pictures next to the story they go with. Repeat until finished Table of Contents Next

Adding effects Click the dropdown arrow next to Edit Movie You can add video transitions by dragging them to the boxes between clips on your storyboard You can add video effects by dragging them to the star box on any given clip. This video will have a transition between clip 1 and the spongebob picture since a transition was dragged to that box Then the next video clip will show up in sepia since the “Sepia Tone” effect was dragged to its star Preview of the SEPIA TONE Table of Contents Next

  11. Storyboard vs. Timeline:There are two ways to view your clips. Storyboard is simpler, and is best for getting started. The timeline is more detailed, and best when it is time to roll up your sleeves, get dirty, fine tune your clips, cut them apart, and mess with the audio (sound).Click the “Show Timeline” or “Show Storyboard” button to toggle back and forth between the twoThe storyboard view shows all pictures/videos the same size. Using the timeline view You will want to click the plus sign next to the word video, which shows you the audio track that matches your video.Note in this example that there is currently no audio where the spongebob picture is The blue vertical line lets you select an exact moment in time on your video. Note that wherever the blue line is, your preview screen will show what your video will look like at that time. You can zoom in/out with the magnifying glasses. Note the numbers at the top, telling you how many seconds into the video you are You can click and drag clips around in this view too. Table of Contents Next

Placing your picture in the right spot You will want to delete a section of your video clip without deleting the audio. 1)Place the blue line where you want your picture to BEGINbeing shown instead of the video 2) Go to the Clip menu, then choose Split 3) Repeat this process where you want the picture to STOP being shown (where your face will re-appear) This process just cut your one video clip (with accompanying audio track) into three separate clips Table of Contents Next

  14. Placing your picture in the right spot Now that your clip has been cut into 3 (parts A, B and C), drag the AUDIO CLIP ONLY of section B ONLY down from the “Audio” track to the “Audio/Music” track A B C Table of Contents Next

  15. Placing your picture in the right spot 2) Now the VIDEO for part B is GONE, the VIDEO and AUDIO for PART C (and everything else) slid over to the left, and the AUDIO for part B is happening at the same time. A C Table of Contents Next

  16. Placing your picture in the right spot 3) Move your picture file from the end of part C over to the left so it is between clips A and C. This will push section C (and it’s audio) back over to the right A C Table of Contents Next

  17. Placing your picture in the right spot 3) Your picture by default will last for 5 seconds. If the section of video you removed (part B) is not exactly 5 seconds, you will need to change the length of time your picture will be shown. To do this (I’ve zoomed in here), Grab the right edge of the picture clip and drag sideways. You want it to match the exact length of the Audio clip that exists in the “Audio/Music” row Drag to here C A Table of Contents Next

  18. Placing your picture in the right spot Now you should have: In the video row, part a, your picture, and then part c In the audio row: Part A’s audio, nothing, then Part C’s audio In the audio/music row: Nothing, then Part B’s Audio, then nothing A C Table of Contents Next

Adding credits and a title slide Under #2 (edit movie), Click on “Make titles or credits” You can then choose what to add and where to add it Follow the steps on the screen to change font color, screen color, etc. When done, click, “Done, add title to movie” or a similar phrase, depending on what you just added A C TIPS: After adding a title/credits, if you would like to change the LENGTH, use timeline view, if you would like to change the LOCATION, use storyboard view. If you would like to add music or other audio to play during your credits/title, you can start with “Import audio or music” in step one on the left hand side of the screen. Table of Contents
