Gift of art • When Henri was 22 he became ill with appendicitis – that left him bedridden for a year. • His mother gave him a set of oil paints….Henri was hooked. • “when I first started to paint , I felt transported into a kind of paradise…In everyday life I was usually bored by what people were always telling me what to do. Starting to paint I felt gloriously free, quiet and alone.”

  5. Drawing with scissors • In 1941, at the age of 72 Henri became ill again. He could not stand for long, and he could barely hold a brush… • Did he quit or give up? • He began creating “cut-outs” • Cut paper on canvas…..

  11. Shapes ORGANIC: or freeform, more flowing, found in nature GEOMETRIC: shapes with names such as oval, circle, square, triangle, etc.

  12. Pattern - layer PATTERN – a pattern is created when something is repeated LAYER – to place different mediums on top of each other

  13. Today’s Project • Black paper for back drop • Choose three (3) papers for geometric shapes • Choose two (2) papers for organic shapes • Use pattern to lay out geometric shapes. Glue in place. • Layer organic shapes on top. Glue in place.
