Preparing Scotland for the era of resource scarcity • The Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan - essential to the security of Scotland’s economic future and delivering environmental benefits • Ensure valuable resources are not lost to the economy • Landfill only small amounts of problem materials • Recycle at least 70% of all materials by 2025

Regulatory drivers • Landfill Tax - £72 per tonne (2013-14) • Duty of Care Regulations: • key recyclables to be segregated; • food waste segregation; and • follow the waste hierarchy. • As of 1st January 2014 all organisations must comply with the Waste (Scotland) Regulations, which make it illegal ot to separate dry recyclables from general waste • CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme – larger and public-sector
