The Richland College Developmental Writing Course (DWRI 0093) redesign project, funded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, addresses significant challenges, including a high failure rate among students (over 50% since Fall 2001). With diverse student backgrounds, inconsistencies in instruction, and high repeat rates in courses, the project aims to implement promising practices focused on personalized student support and assessment strategies. Initial results show a shift towards improved retention and success rates, indicating potential for greater student achievement.
