Sourcing of food to suit all tastes and dietary requirements; seasonality of food; local approach Energy and water requirements 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; Hotels notoriously wasteful in management of resources. Face similar issues in the global age

Challenges… • - Client expectations are now increasingly for ethical and sustainable living. • MIC is the first hotel to implement a fully integrated and holistic ethical standard. • First hotel in the UK to be officially accredited and audited as a • Social Enterprise Hotel. • - Uniquely, we measure hotel performance with 3 key indicators: • social impact, environmental impact and profit. • - By making money, our organisation becomes truly sustainable. • - MIC is the most exciting and dynamic developmental hotel brand in the UK • and global market. It is the only genuine ethical hotel brand.

Methodist International Centre (MIC) MIC has supported over International 5,000 students in the last 60 years Legacy of Hilda Porter, Methodist Missionary: self funding social enterprise since 1998 MIC a hub for charities & non profit organisations MIC’s Social Impact Special responsibility as a social enterprise employer – identifying ability & providing opportunity Students from all continents receive support; over 50 countries Over 50% of profits gift aided each year to supporting students. Last year £330,000 Future development includes bursaries;plan is to increase level of support to students on a bigger scale Students, staff & customers from all faith backgrounds

Goals 2010 • Strategic 5 Year Goals: • To be the UK’s No. 1 ethical hotel brand • To make MIC a fully sustainable company This Year’s Goals: • To successfully complete robust business cases for redevelopment projects in Euston and Cambridge • To achieve 2010/11 Budget including sales growth and cost reduction • Key Account Management and Credit Management in place • Implement technology that is fit for purpose for the business including a PMS and secure booking engine • To achieve Food for Life Catering Accreditation • Implementation of Health & Safety and Risk Assessment Plans • Professional: To improve understanding and knowledge of economics • Professional & Personal: To learn to speak French • Personal: To improve my fitness and stay healthy

  11. MIC is strongly committed to the ideals of the Fair Trade movement and to a clear environmental policy. As a social enterprise MIC is the embodiment of the now popular corporate social responsibility. Simply, we plough all that we get to supporting home and overseas students, as well as a range of other charities.

  12. Just one example… Provides a lifeline to the villagers by: Running a feeding program for the children. Assisting with school uniforms, clothing and school levies and exam fees. Offering vocational training for adolescents and teenage parents (e.g. tailoring, hairdressing, computer skills) helping them to start a money generating trade. Offering a recreational and creative arts centre for the jobless school leavers. Jambo Sana Project

  13. Just one example… Over 40 children are served lunch every school day, ensuring they have at least one nutritious meal a day and helping to improve their concentration in school.
