This working paper explores critical aspects of contract farming in Africa, including political comprehension, methods to tackle contract failures, and effective linkages between farmers and companies. It addresses obstacles such as traditional land tenure systems and regulatory frameworks and assesses current operations in real-world contexts. Additionally, it examines how contract farming can serve as a catalyst for rural development while considering smaller-scale contractual arrangements involving local stakeholders. Solutions and recommendations to enhance contract farming practices will be proposed.
